A Trio of planting

With spring well under way we turned our thoughts to gardening and getting a head start. Mrs Jones brought in a selection of seeds, compost and pots. We chose which three seeds we wanted to grow from:

Tomato, French Bean, Beetroot & Cucumber.

We filled each little pot with compost and planted our seed then added a wooden label to each pot. We look forward to seeing our little seeds germinate so watch this space for updates.

Amazing Animals!

Here we are in our fabulous WBD animal costumes. Everyone shared their factfile in literacy this morning. Thank you to  our families for their support in helping the children to do their WBD task.

The Science of Ice Cream

We’ve been learning about melting and freezing by finding out about what ice cream actually is and then making our own in the classroom. Unfortunately, we then had to eat it but we did learn lots along the way including why it is really lucky that water does freeze.

Estimating weight.

In maths we were estimating the weight of objects in the  classroom. We used real weights from 5g up to 1kg to help us. We also estimated the weight of a pineapple to see who could guess the closest weight.  These are our estimates:

L – 500g                     D – 510g

M – 500g                   H – 1kg

A – 560g                    R  – 565g

B – 1kg                         S – 1001g

B – 500g

The actual weight was 1269g! We ate the pineapple at breaktime – tasty and scrumptious!

Samba Salsa!

Year 5 took part in their mainstream class assembly this morning.  It was a fantastic experience to watch – Miss Salisbury thought it was an excellent advert for the South American Tourist Board!  We did a carnival dance and at the end there was a LOUD BANG with confetti inside a tube. It made us jump!

Abstract art

We have been honing our fine motor and brush skills with a piece of abstract art.

Temperature Change

We’ve been learning how to read a thermometer this week as we measured the temperature of hot water as it cooled. We then plotted our results on a time graph. Most of us hadn’t used this type of graph before but we soon got the hang of it.

Fresh Fruit Friday

Mrs Jones brought in a fruit that we hadn’t experienced before. It is called a POMELO. Most of us tried a small piece and really enjoyed it. These are three adjectives we used to describe it:

SWEET   JUICY    TASTY

Kung Hei Fat Choy!

Today we watched some Chinese dancing – it was very energetic and lively. We also tried our hand at calligraphy and making pictures using tangrams. Here we are experiencing skills from a different culture.
