For the Autumn 1 Half Term, in history, we will be learning about holidaying at the seaside.  Children will use photographs and paintings to look for clues about what seaside holidays were like in the past.  They will use these clues to start to understand how seaside holidays were different to how they are today, the impact that the steam train had in the Victorian era as well as discovering some of the features of traditional seaside holidays, such as Punch and Judy shows. The rest of our curriculum is looking as exciting as ever, including painting landscapes; studying ourselves and exploring our 5 senses in science; and developing our ball skills in PE.  In English we begin with a lovely story, The Story Machine by  Tom McLaughlin, and we will be making predictions about the mystery machine, writing lists and retelling this amazing tale.   In maths, we are exploring numbers; learning to  recognise written numbers and numerals and comparing using the terms 'greater than', 'less than' and 'as many as'.

Spellings will posted on Monday evening to practice at home before a 'spelling quiz' on the following Monday. Current spellings can be found online on the link to the right. Maths fluency questions are likewise set on Wednesday and due back by the following Monday. We also strongly encourage the children to read at least three times a week at home.

Please make sure you have your PE or Forest School kits in school for our outdoor and sporting activities: 1MK have outdoor PE on Thursday; 1HB on Friday. Forest School and PE alternate on a Monday - please see this calendar to identify whether your child's class is doing PE or Forest School each week. Please send your child to school in their kit on their PE / Forest School day - all PE lessons will be outdoors (weather permitting) and you may wish to consider your child having a tracksuit for the day. More information about Forest School can be found on our curriculum web page. Please make sure all earrings are removed or covered with tape before school on PE days.
