This half term we will be finishing off writing our wonderful Sensational Poems.  We are looking forward to reading our class text Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian; writing a diary entry and balanced argument.

Our topics in Maths are percentages, geometry, position and movement, and measurement.  In geometry, the children will learn to recognise different types of angles and begin to use a protractor to measure and draw angles.

It’s all programming in Computing.  We will be finishing our topic, using selection in physical computing where we will write a programme to control a carousel using crumbles. Then we will move on to Selection in Quizzes. The children will develop their knowledge of writing programs, using selection to control outcomes. They will design a quiz and implement this as a program using Scratch.

Our topic in History is Crime and punishment and we will be examining how crime and punishment has changed in Britain over the last 1,000 years.

In Art, our topic is Textiles,Collage and Sewing. The children will practise different textiles techniques such as embroidery, tie dye, screen printing and batik. They use these techniques to create a t-shirt inspired by Andy Warhol’s pop art artwork. We have many other interesting curriculum topics this half-term such as cricket and Dance in P.E. In Music, we will be looking at whether music can lift our spirits in hard times?

Important information:

Spellings will be sent out on Mondays to practice at home before the tests on the following Monday. Current spellings can be found online on the link to the right. Maths home learning is set on Wednesday and due back by the following Monday. We also strongly encourage the children to read at least three times a week at home and have their reading record filled in and signed once a week.

Please make sure you have your PE kits in school for our sporting activities: 5JL have lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5HM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please send your child to school in their kit on their PE day, and make sure all earrings are removed or covered with tape before school on these days.
