Budding Gymnasts !

I am so proud of the children in 1MH. We had a fabulous PE lesson today creating basic body shapes.

Performance Poetry

Today we have been creating our own versions of Michael Rosen’s Chocolate Cake.

We tried to use expression and facial expressions and the volume in our performance like Michael Rosen. We watched the chocolate video by Michael Rosen in between our practice and it gave us a lot of inspiration on how to do this interesting task.

Have a look at one of our performances using the link below…

Roman Invasion!

At the end of the Iron Age, the Romans invaded Britain! We have been learning to use Roman numerals in maths.

Stone Age Pots

We have designed and made our very own Stone Age water carrier pots! We used clay, just like Stone Age people.

Layers of The Amazonian Rainforest.

Using only our hands as tools, we created an abstract Rainforest.  Each layer was carefully added starting with the tallest layer and finishing with the forest floor.  Please ask your child to explain what the different layers are (they could even show you with a dramatic representation!)  IMG_0582 IMG_0584 IMG_0585 IMG_0586

Fabulous fractions!

Who said fractions were fractious? We have been working really hard at finding half , quarters and thirds of shapes.  With a little help from some tasty looking pizzas we can now explain what fraction means.  Please ask your child to explain to you what whole, half, quarters and thirds (or fifths…or sixths…) mean.  IMG_0578 IMG_0579 IMG_0580 IMG_0581

Lord of the Springs – We need your help!

We are unable to use our wonderful three-acre field due to a natural spring which leaves our field flooded for most of the year. However we have been shortlisted in the ‘Tesco Bags of Help’ initiative to win £5,000, which will allow us to install vital drainage. The Tesco scheme, in conjunction with Groundwork, sees grants of £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – awarded to outdoor community projects. We are desperate to beat two other projects to win the top grant, as second and third place prizes will not be enough to fund a permanent solution to the issue.

Voting is open in stores until February 25, with the nearest sites including Bromsgrove Express in Marlbrook, Barnt Green Express, Rubery Metro and Frankley Express.

For more information visit tesco.com/bagsofhelp.

Dan the builder, can we fix it?

Nursery have loved getting our tools and builders hats on this week and building all kinds of things. We have been decorating our walls of our house inside and sawing and hammering nails. Of course we made a tasty healthy sandwich for our builders lunchbox too!

We also got into supervisor role and went outside to investigate what the builders have been getting up to and we had lots of questions for them. Dan showed us his different tools and told us what each does and he showed us how to mix cement. We watched the team laying bricks high up on their scaffolding.

Chinese New  year

We have enjoyed visiting our Chinese restaurant his week and getting into role as waiters and customers. We had a go at using chopsticks and tasted different foods even making our own spring rolls.
