Meet our newly elected Head Boy and Head Girl 2018/19

Congratulations to William and Evie Year 6, who were successfully voted in as the new Head Boy and Head Girl for Lickey Hills Primary School. I’m sure you’ll agree they are a great choice and wonderful role models for our school values.

House Captains, Sports Captains and Ambassadors have also been appointed so look out for them in and around school helping out with: reading, music, IT, PE and being helping hands in the school, playground and classroom.

Thank you to everyone in Year 6 who applied and for the time taken with your applications, they were a pleasure to read.

Investigating Circuits

Year 6 have been investigating circuits, looking at different ways to connect lights up. We found that if we connected the lights in a line (a series circuit) they get dimmer and we discovered that the voltage is shared between the lights. However, the lights will stay bright if we connected them in parallel to each other.

CSI Lickey Hills

Year 6 have been forensic scientists using microscopes to analyse evidence from a crime scene (The Great Jelly Baby Raid!) We identified newspaper, tissue and fibres left at the crime scene, compared finger prints before finally analysing a Jelly Baby that was left behind with some kind of substance stuck to it.

Oak House are Sports Day Champions

Congratulations to everyone in Oak house team, you are the 2017/18 overall winners of the Sports Day Trophy with 350 points scored from all three department events. Charlie (Sports Captain) and Harry (House Captain) were delighted to receive the trophy with yellow ribbons on behalf of all Oak members.

2nd place : Chestnut 348 points  (very close)

3rd place: Beech 334 points

4th place: Ash 248 points

Classification Keys

This term, Year 6 have been looking at the classification of living things including creating our own classification keys. We started with something simple to get the hang of it – different sweets. However, by the end of the lesson we were designing keys to identify British bumblebee species.

Sajid Javid MP

On Friday, Year 6 were visited by the Secretary of State for Housing and MP for Bromsgrove, Sajid Javid. We spent the first lesson researching to come up with a list of questions that we wanted to ask. When he arrived, he delivered a powerful speech about the importance of democracy and then invited us to ask him any questions. He was very impressed by how much thought we had put in to our questions and how confidently we asked them. It was a fantastic experience to meet such an important member of our government and it has inspired many of us to think about becoming Members of Parliament!

Fan Boats

We’ve been designing, building and testing fan boats this week. We had to think about making them float, the weight distribution so that they didn’t tip over, the electrical circuit to connect the motor and waterproofing the wiring. We had a lot of fun putting our scientific knowledge to practical use.

Democracy Dinner

We had such an amazing day for Democracy Dinner!!

Science Festival

On Friday, we had such an awesome day! We designed our own very own crater experiment using flour and cocoa powder. It got a little messy!

In year 6, we also paid tribute to the brilliant Stephen Hawking and learnt about his contributions to the world of science.

World Book Day

We loved World Book Day! It was fantastic to see the amount of effort everyone had made to dress as a book character. Some pupils prepared speeches about how their chosen character fitted in with our School’s values – clearly, a lot of thought had gone in to costumes. Unfortunately, many pupils had gone home early due to the snow so there are quite a few children missing from our class picture! Well done everyone!
