Sharing our Home Learning 13.5.16

IMG_1043

It was fantastic to see a variety of activities in the children’s lovely home learning. This Maths activity involved the children having a tea party and sharing out food, cutlery and crockery equally between all the guests (cuddly teddies!). When we ‘share out’ we are dividing a total amount equally into groups.

Science 13.5.16

Today we had a competition! We went outside and split into two groups. Group one looked for as many ‘non-living’ things as possible whilst Group two looked for ‘living’ things. Group one won with twenty ‘non-living’ things!

Tree planting in Lickey woods

img_0138   On Wedsnesday 3rd February we joined year 4 to plant 1000 new trees in the Lickey woods. We worked with ‘Birmingham trees for life’ and the Lickey Rangers. We walked to the Lickey hills, it was muddy! We got shown how to use a spade properly and they showed us how to plant and protect the baby trees. Jay, Luke, Lucas and Ali worked as a team to plant 12 new hazel trees. It was lovely to be outside and doing something good for the environment.

Science work shop

On Tuesday 2nd February Luke and Jay attended a science workshop. Dr Watson came in to teach us about electricity. First she taught us about static electricity and we did an experiment. We rubbed a balloon on our hair and we then got some paper circles to stick to the balloon, all on their own!

Next we investigated how a potato and a lemon can become a battery to light up an LED bulb, it was excellent!

After that we we investigated switches and materials that could conduct electricity and those that can’t!

Luke said: “It was good, I like investigating the materials the best”

Jay said “I had lots of fun because we did lots of practical experiments”
