Beebot Battles!

During our Computing lesson, we had a challenge to programme a Beebot to complete a track circuit without knocking any spectators down.

We work in pairs and used trial and error to investigate the programme.

Eventually, after persevering for over 30   minutes, we achieved our goal … well sort of!

Father Christmas came to Lickey Hills!

Today, Father Christmas visited our school.

With a ring of his bell and a sack full of toys, the children greeted Father Christmas with smiles as wide as a Cheshire cat.

Merry Christmas everyone. We hope you have a wonderful time full of lovely experiences and memory building.

A Wriggly Nativity

KS1 have been working really hard rehearsing for their big Christmas production and today was the premier of A Wriggly Nativity. The children have been amazing with their singing, dancing and learning their lines and we’re sure you’ll be so proud if you haven’t seen them yet – we certainly are.

Creative Christmas Crafts

This week, we have had so much fun and enjoyment creating our Christmas crafts. All of the pupils excelled in terms of focus and the amount of pride they felt in their work.

We hope all parents/carers enjoy the ‘keepsake’ art.

Intervention with Miss Morris – video link

In order to support adding details into their conversations before writing clear sentences, Miss Morris worked with individuals to help structure their speech. Here we see a young man clearly construct a sentence using the format of What?, Who? and Where?

The Beebots!

LB 1 enjoyed a lovely session programming Beebots to move from a starting point to a chosen end. They used arrows to move the Beebot forward and backwards as well as turn left and right.

We observed some wonderful sharing of the task, discussions about the best route to take as well as smiles and laughter when the Beebot took an unexpected route.

Well done, LB 1

Creative spirits in LB 1! Week ending 15th November.

This week, the pupils have been exploring the world around them in further detail.

For our Literacy learning, we created simple sentences based on noun objects we found in our Purposeful Play boxes.

Numeracy focused on beginning our addition journey and we played lots of interactive games to support our learning.

Science explored the different materials that we can find in our school. We went on a  ‘Material Hunt’ to identify the different materials that objects are made of. The class can now identify what is a natural material in our school and what is man made.

Friday, of course, was Children in Need. The class made Pudsey masks and thoroughly enjoyed playing as though they were Pudsey. Mrs Pitcher and Miss Troth were on tender hooks as they kept loosing pupils! Argh! A wonderful day was enjoyed, however, and all the pupils commented that they had had fun!

4th November – How creative can we be?

Our first week back after half term and we have filled the day with lots of creative and investigative activities.

Our Science lesson focused on identifying changes that take place in our natural environment during Autumn. We chose to explore the school grounds and complete an ‘Autumn Hunt’ trail, searching for and classifying changes to our natural environment. Of course, the pupils loved finding spiders to scare Mrs Pitcher!

Art and Cookery explored different materials and how they could be used to create a firework image. Pupils used chalk, pegs and 2-d shapes to create their firework picture, which were then placed into a ‘Firework Gallery’ for the class to share. The most favourite material was the chalk as the class loved using their hands.

Finally, cookery focused on their fine motor skills and independent thinking. They decorated a moon biscuit to illustrate how a firework appears in front of a full moon.

LB 1 Communicative Play

As part of their communication session today, Monday 14th October, Reception and Yr. 1 pupils in LB 1 took turns to play games. The aim of the session was to identify when it was their turn to wait and listen and when it was their turn to lead and talk.

The groups favourite activity was Buckaroo. They enjoyed using their fine motor skills to balance objects on the horse before the horse bucked and everything fell off.

The pupils used ‘My turn, Your Turn’ cards created by Miss Morris (SaLT) and quickly identified the appropriate times to talk before stopping to allow their peers to concentrate on their balancing task. Lovely.

Yr. 2 become Craft Masters

During their Art lesson today, Yr. 2 explored their portraits before creating a self-portrait using collage.

Can you recognise anyone from these portraits?
