Professor McGinty’s “Stuff”

Professor McGinty is a very silly man who says “I was 8 when I was your age”, and he  hands round “stuff”. And when we get in the habit of saying “stuff” he will say “things”. When he was about to press the button on the  time machine he would press  his knee and scream ouch and rub his knee frantically.

He showed us lots of Roman “stuff” such as Roman pots, pennies, and even Roman clothes. We love Professor McGinty and we learned lots of “stuff”.

Year 4’s Massive Mosaic

Year 4 have had lots of fun making mosaics and now we’ve put them altogether to make one great big wall. We think it looks amazing!

Who’s Marching Into Britain?

We have been making life-sized pictures of Celts and Romans. We had to research what they looked like and then had great fun painting the different people.

Up The Villa

This week, Year 4 have been using estate agent speak to sell a property. However, this was a Roman villa and before we could write our sales brochures we had to investigate what a villa was like and how the Romans used to live.

Awesome Archaeologists

This week we spent the afternoon being archaeologists. We came up with lots of questions based on some jewellery that was found buried under the remains of a house in Colchester last summer. Who did it belong to? How old was it? Why did they hide it? Why didn’t they come back for it? We then set about working out possible ideas.

We decided that it belonged to a wealthy Roman woman and that the town had been attacked by the Celts. She was probably killed and so never returned for her jewellery.

Fenwick Treasure

After that, we worked to reconstruct a drawing of some pottery based on a few broken fragments. It was quite tricky repeating the pattern but we used symmetry to get the shape right.
