Roman Engineering

4RF conducted an investigation this week to discover which shape column was the strongest. We tested cylinders, cuboids, triangular, pentagonal, hexagonal and octagonal prisms. Even though each column was made out of just a single piece of paper, the strongest held almost 3kg!

Which was the strongest? Well, let’s not spoil it for 4AB…

Sinister, Dexter, Sinister, Dexter…

We did some fantastic home learning including writing awesome newspaper articles, making information leaflets and lots of shields. We’re quite scary lined up although we need to practice marching a bit more!

Thanks for supporting home learning.

Celtic Villagers

In our Theme lesson, Year 4 turned into Celtic villagers. We researched the different jobs there were and worked in groups to make a poster for each one. There were fantastic weavers, basket makers, blacksmiths, hunters, farmers and children!

Aztec Market

Today, 4RF ttravelled back to the year 1516 and held an Aztec market selling all sorts of produce familiar to the Aztecs but as yet unknown to Europeans. How could they not know what a potato or tomato was?

We practiced lots of maths, learnt about Aztec life and really got into our roles of market traders – there are some budding Del Boys out there…

Sounds of the Aztec forest

Having listened to some example pieces of music, 4RF composed their own musical pieces to evoke the forests of central Mexico. We used instruments familiar to the Aztecs such as simple percussion, ocarinas and pan pipes and came up with some imaginative pieces incorporating rainfall and birdsong into our rhythms.

Vive la révolution!

We have been looking at the French Revolution and we made a piece of word art out of all the words and names to do with the Revolution.  It was huge!

French Revolution Art

Liberté, égalité, fraternité

We’ve been finding out why the French commoners were so unhappy and, after taking some inspiration from Martin Luther King Jr, it wasn’t long before we started writing speeches calling for a revolution!

Revolution!

The uprising has begun and the peasants are revolting!

Roman Town Starts to Come to Life

Year 4’s Roman town is coming together with just the final touches needed before we can take a tour of our creation…

Roman Towns in Action

The past few weeks we have been looking at Roman villa.

We are making our own Roman villas and we are doing it in pairs.

At the end we are going to put them to together so it can be a Roman town.

We have been taking some pictures of our Roman villas.

These are just some of thirty different amazing  models of Roman villas.
