Fresh Fruit Friday

Mrs Jones brought in a fruit that we hadn’t experienced before. It is called a POMELO. Most of us tried a small piece and really enjoyed it. These are three adjectives we used to describe it:

SWEET   JUICY    TASTY

Kung Hei Fat Choy!

Today we watched some Chinese dancing – it was very energetic and lively. We also tried our hand at calligraphy and making pictures using tangrams. Here we are experiencing skills from a different culture.

Who’s Marching into Britain?

I saw some super creative homework in 4SR this week based on their Roman  theme. These two caught my eye, a Colosseum cake and the Leaning Tower of Pisa – two lasting landmarks Harley and Niamh think you should visit.

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Happy Chinese New year! The children have already started their celebrations at LHPSN finding out about the traditions and celebrations associated with the Chinese Lunar New Year or Spring Festival. Nursery had a fun filled morning, making Bolang Gu drums, eating Chinese food at a banquet and did an exciting dragon dance around the playground. Thank you to the families who sent in donations of decorations and some lucky red envelopes for the children. On Thursday the whole school is celebrating with some special visitors to help us find out more about this world wide celebration.

Classifying Rocks

We’ve been using a mix of careful observation and chemical tests to identify different rocks. We used a geological classification key to help us determine what each of our mystery rocks were.

Gong Hey Fat Choy

Happy Chinese New year! The children have had a fun filled morning, celebrating Chinese new year. They made Bolang Gu drums, ate delicious food in the banquet, made special red packets to take home and did an exciting dragon dance outside.

Measuring

In Maths this week Year One have learnt about measuring using non-standard units and standard units. We learnt to measure using cubes, paper clips, our hands and feet and  a ruler to measure in centimetres.

Castles

Year One have been learning all about castles. We have talked about the features of castles and have found out how they helped to protect the people inside.

Here are some of the castles we made ourselves.  Can you spot the drawbridge, battlements, portcullis and arrow slits?

1KG Class Assembly

A massive well done to 1KG on their amazing assembly on Celebrations. It was lovely to hear all the positive comments from parents, grandparents and staff. Miss Salisbury was so impressed with all our hard work that she gave us a Headteacher’s Award.
