On the way to Holy Trinity Church

We had a lovely walk up to the church this morning; it was sunny yet crisp and cold. Everyone sang beautifully and both Mrs Bird and Mrs Jones are very proud of the way our children conducted themselves throughout the morning. Our four readers read extremely well in church and we could hear every sound in the words they read – well done LB2!

The Creation Station

Reception had lots of fun creating play dough animals this afternoon, adding feathers, shiny scales and spines as well as drawing their habitats. “It was fun and really creative,” agreed all of Reception.

Experimenting with paper planes

In Science today we made paper planes, experimenting with different materials to try to make ours go the furthest. We had to think about the sort of paper we would use, the size of the paper and the design of the plane. We then took it in turns to throw them on the playground – the furthest went 8 metres!

Christmas craft activity session

Thank you to all of the parents who joined us for the craft session, we had so much fun we hope you did too!

Christmas Cheer at LHPSN

What a wonderful week we had performing the Christmas story and singing songs around the Christmas tree for our parents, carers and family members. EYFS and KS1 children were all in super voice and kept us all entertained with their story telling and songs. I especially enjoyed Away In a Manger accompanied by the children ‘signing’ the words, a LHPSN tradition which brings a smile every time.

Ofsted Visit

Ofsted will be visiting the school on Tuesday 11th December.

Letters have been sent out to you via Parentmail from Ofsted with guidance for parents.

KS2 Garden

The KS2 garden is really starting to take shape now, with most of the hard landscaping now complete. Over 2019, the children will be growing, propagating and planting out the plants to create a quiet retreat for break times as well as it being a space available for outdoor learning.

Meanwhile, in the wildlife garden, we have sown wild flowers with the aim of creating a small meadow to benefit pollinators such as butterflies and bees. Hopefully, the seed will take and the children will have a new habitat to explore in the summer term.

Stretching Learning

Year 2 continued their investigation of material properties by testing elastic bands to find out which was the stretchiest. We measured how much longer each elastic band was after adding a 200g weight. We talked about why it might be useful to test more than one of each type of elastic band and realised that similar bands may not be exactly the same. We then combined each group’s results to get an average value to represent each type of elastic band
