Inspiration from a former LHPSN pupil and Paralympic Champion

British parasport rower and former wheelchair athlete Lauren Rowles, former pupil of the school, spoke to the children in a special assembly.
She shared her story from being a sports mad able-bodied young girl to becoming a celebrated Paralympic Gold medalist and MBE.
Teacher Dave Weston, who used to teach Lauren and organised the visit, said: “The children were captivated by Lauren’s story and were inspired by her attitude and ambition.

“Lauren is a perfect example of our school values of perseverance, positivity and determination. To have gone through what she went through at such a young age and then achieve Paralympic Gold and become an MBE inspired both the children and the staff.” He added: “The staff and children are still talking about her assembly now and we cannot wait to see what Lauren goes on to achieve next.”

Meet our newly elected Head Boy and Head Girl 2018/19

Congratulations to William and Evie Year 6, who were successfully voted in as the new Head Boy and Head Girl for Lickey Hills Primary School. I’m sure you’ll agree they are a great choice and wonderful role models for our school values.

House Captains, Sports Captains and Ambassadors have also been appointed so look out for them in and around school helping out with: reading, music, IT, PE and being helping hands in the school, playground and classroom.

Thank you to everyone in Year 6 who applied and for the time taken with your applications, they were a pleasure to read.

Celebrating Diwali

This week the children have had a fabulous time celebrating Diwali, the annual festival of lights.  After watching a Cbeebies video clip explaining what Diwali is and how it is celebrated we took part in various activities; designing Mehndi and Rangoli patterns, making diya lamps, bhangra dancing and having an Indian feast.  The children enjoyed the shadow puppet show story of Rama and Sita (https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/stories/lets-celebrate-diwaliperformance) and how they found their way home.

Bonfire night and Diwali

What an exciting week we have had! Nursery began their week sharing their news from over the half term, many said they had seen lots of wonderful fire works. We made catherine wheels, the children enjoyed making the noise whilst twirling them around. On Wednesday it was Diwali, we enjoyed tasting delicious Indian food, learning a bhangra dance, making rangoli and mehndi patterns.

A write adventure!

We have been planning and writing our own stories. We have invented our characters or used ones we know and then used our imagination to write our own story. After drawing it out on a story board we then did a ‘cold write’ which means we just write it in out our books. Next week, we will use our editing skills to make improvements and uplevel our word choices. Some of us will use a thesaurus to find better words.  We are looking forward to hearing some very exciting adventures read out in class!

Kim’s Game

We have started a new topic in maths – 3D shape. Today we had a short quiz  to see if we could remember the names of different 3D shapes as well as describe their features.  Then we played Kim’s Game where a shape was hidden and we had to guess which one was missing.

Good Vibrations

LB2 have started their new science topic, “Super Sound”, by exploring how sound is made by objects vibrating. We watched beads jumping on drums, tuning forks flicking water into the air and slow motion videos of musical instruments to reveal the vibrations. We then used an oscilloscope app to display the sound waves produced by lots of different (and very noisy) instruments.
