Let the force be with you!

Today we started our new science topic looking at forces by building our own force meters so that we can measure forces. We had to carefully mark the scale on them by using different amounts of weights. Over the next couple of weeks we will be trying some force experiments and will be measuring the forces involved.

We love PGL!

We had the most amazing week at PGL! Last Friday, we all got together as a year group to share our favourite parts. Here are a few of our highlights!

Boo!

This week we have been excited talking about our Halloween parties, costumes and trick or treats.

We built on our interests in school by making spells in our spooky house just like Meg in a Meg and Mog story, making ghost footprints and pumpkins as well as using our voices and bodies to represent Halloween creatures, and explore rhyme making silly soup  with bats and cats and rats!

Helping the Little Red Hen

This week Reception have been reading all about the Little Red Hen.  We have thought about how she must have felt when her friends did not help!  Unlike the farm animals, the children were brilliant at working as a team, taking turns to mix ingredients before kneeding the dough to make bread rolls.  We heard lots of lovely descriptive language too – “ooh this is so sticky” “it stretches” and “squidgy and soggy”.  We hope they enjoy eating the rolls as much as the Little Red Hen enjoyed eating her bread all by herself!

Diwali

We celebrated Diwali before half term. We read and discussed the story of Rama and Sita and how the festival of light was created. The diva lamps represent good over evil. We then created and painted our own clay diva lamps.

Place Value Fun- Miss Edwards’ maths group

This week we have been furthering our understanding of place value. We have really enjoyed playing different games and using support resources to help us learn about place value in several different ways.

Before half term we learnt about the properties of 2D shapes and had to sort lots of 2d shapes based on these properties.maths

All aboard!

In theme we have been learning about Captain James Cook’s ship! Take a look … image

A visit from an Austin 7!

Year 2 were so lucky to see an 84 year old Austin 7 today! We discovered cars that long ago didn’t have seat belts and this one didn’t have a boot! It also had to be started by pulling a lever at the front. Very interesting! We really enjoyed looking around it and were so sensible. IMG_1516[1] IMG_1517[1] IMG_1518[2] IMG_1519[1] IMG_1520[1] IMG_1521[1] IMG_1523[1]
