Language Base Learning
Within Lickey Hills Language Base, each curriculum area is adapted to the needs of the current cohort of pupils. This creates a flexible and bespoke curriculum which changes annually. Additionally, many Language Base pupils access mainstream classes for some areas of the curriculum. Please visit the appropriate mainstream Year Group pages for curriculum overviews that your child accesses.
In Unit 1 in English we will be introduced to a text called ‘The Lonely Beast’ by Chris Judge. We will use this text to explore punctuation, such as capital letters and full stops and we will use these to write our own simple sentences. We will identify adjectives and noun phrases in a text and will begin to use them in our own writing. Throughout the unit we will write a character description, a non chronological report all about blue whales and a retell.
Home Learning Information
All pupils in LB have a communication folder which holds their reading diary, weekly reading books, maths home learning book (Y1 -6 only) and a communication book. Please return the communication folder to school each morning.
Spellings will be set on Mondays to practice at home before a 'spelling quiz' on the following Monday. Please see the link below. Maths fluency questions are likewise set on Wednesday and due back by the following Monday. Children are also encouraged to use Times Tables Rock Stars and their login details are in their maths home learning books. We also strongly encourage our children to read at least three times a week at home, ensuring this is logged in their reading diaries.
SaLT Information
Miss Morris and Miss Crabtree (NHS Speech and Language Therapists) will be in school twice a week. They will work with individual pupils and lead both small group and whole group sessions. Miss Morris and Miss Crabtree will also work alongside mainstream staff to support pupil integration into their respective mainstream classes and generalise their speech, language and communication skills. Further specific Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) support will be delivered by Miss McAndrew and Mrs Underhill (Speech, Language and Communication Needs Teaching Assistant) throughout each week, organised by Miss Morris and Miss Crabtree.
