Welcome to Year 4!
This half term, we will look at the captivating story of 'The King Who Banned the Dark' by Emily Haworth-Booth. We are using it as inspiration to write a letter to persuade a King (using scientific facts) to unban the dark. We will also continue our retrieval and inference skills by looking at different extracts from this book each week. In history we will be looking at the Ancient Greek and the legacies they have left behind. As the MTC takes place in Year 4, we will be practise all times tables on a daily basis becoming familiar with the more challenging ones! Please practise these using 'Times Tables Rock Stars' three times a week. In music, Mozart vs Beethoven: who had the biggest influence on classical music?
In Art , we will be exploring abstract and the famous artist Picasso. The children will have the opportunity to explore their emotions through abstractism and create self-portraits. In Science, we will look at our 'Exciting Electricity' and practically investigate simple and parallel circuits.
Spellings will be sent out on Mondays to practice at home before the tests on the following Monday. Current spellings can be found online on the link to the right. Times tables are set on Wednesdays and due back by the following Monday. We also strongly encourage the children to read at home. New books will be sent out on a Thursday and will be expected on a Wednesday with Reading Journals.
Please make sure you have your PE kits in school for our sporting activities: Both Year 4 classes will have PE on a Friday until further notice. Swimming will be on Wednesdays where the children also come dressed in their PE kits. Please make sure all earrings are removed or covered with tape before school on these days.
