Welcome to Year 4!
In Unit 1, our English lessons will focus on the book ‘Mamma Miti’ by Donna Napoli. Inspired by this wonderful book, the children will be identifying features of a biography and creating one themselves. In maths, the children will be consolidating their knowledge from last year and building on this within our Place Value and Addition and Subtraction Units.
In Science, our topic will be 'Exciting Electricity'. The children will be identifying the basic electrical components and investigate which materials conduct electricity. In art, the children will be completing a unit of work based on Abstract Art. This will include studying the work of Picasso and creating their own abstract drawing of themself. Our topic in Computing is 'data and information data logging'. In this topic, the children will know how to recognise how and why data is collected over time, before using data loggers to carry out an investigation. In History, we will be learning about the Ancient Greeks and what life was like then. In PSHE, our topic will be Being Me in My World. In this, the children will be thinking about rewards and consequences, how to make decisions and being a school citizen. Finally this term, in PE, the children will be playing netball and gymnastics.
Important Information:
Current spellings can be found below. These will be updated each half-term. Please ensure that your child practices these as often as they can. Spelling tests will be on a Monday. Maths home learning is set on Wednesdays and due back by the following Monday. We also strongly encourage the children to read at home. New books will be sent out on a Friday and will be expected on a Wednesday with Reading Journals. Please ensure these are signed before new books are issued.
Times Tables Rockstars (TTRS):
Children in Year 4 will complete a Multiplation Times table check - known as MTC. We will be practising these at school, however it is important that your child also has access to practice these at home. Each child now has a log-in, which can be found at the front of their maths home learning books. Please encourage your child to log-in and practice at home.
3x e-praise points will be awarded weekly, if your child plays for 21 minutes per week (which is recommended).

Home - Times Tables Rock Stars
P.E. days for Year 4 will be on a Wednesday and Friday. Children should come into school wearing P.E. kits on these days. Please make sure all earrings are removed or covered with tape before school on these days.
Swimming will start in Spring and continue through to the Summer term. Swimming will be on Wednesdays where the children also come dressed in their PE kits.
