Welcome to Year 4!
To begin Spring 1, In English pupils will be completing an explanatory write. Our class text is 'The Rhythm of the Rain' by Grahame Baker-Smith. This will also link to a core area of the curriculum (Geography and Science) looking at the water cycle. Children will be using VCOPS to identify key features and apply these to their own writing.
In Maths, we will be looking at:
- Multiplication and Division
In Science, we will be learning about 'Magnificent Matter', children will be grouping materials together, depending on whether they are solids, liquids or gases. Children will also be identifying the part played by evaporation and condensation in the water cycle.
In P.E. children will be learning new skills as they go swimming and learn how to play golf. Children will need to bring swimming costumes/shorts to school with them. Information has been sent accordingly.
In Art this term children will be learning new painting techniques - Exploring the work of Kandinsky and focus on Colour Study. Begin using watercolours and experimenting with mixing them to create an alternative Colour Study painting using dots, dashes, blocks of colour and strokes.
Important Information:
Current spellings can be found below. These will be updated each half-term. Please ensure that your child practices these as often as they can. Spelling tests will be on a Monday. Maths home learning is set on Wednesdays and due back by the following Monday. We also strongly encourage the children to read at home. New books will be sent out on a Friday and will be expected on a Wednesday with Reading Journals. Please ensure these are signed before new books are issued.
Times Tables Rockstars (TTRS):
Children in Year 4 will complete a Multiplation Times table check - known as MTC. We will be practising these at school, however it is important that your child also has access to practice these at home. Each child now has a log-in, which can be found at the front of their maths home learning books. Please encourage your child to log-in and practice at home.
3x e-praise points will be awarded weekly, if your child plays for 21 minutes per week (which is recommended).

Home - Times Tables Rock Stars
P.E. days for Year 4 will be on a Wednesday and Friday during the Autumn term. Children should come into school wearing P.E. kits on these days. Please make sure all earrings are removed or covered with tape before school on these days.
Swimming will start in Spring and continue through to the Summer term. Swimming will be on Wednesdays where the children also come dressed in their PE kits.
