Welcome to Year 4!
In Unit 2, our English lessons will focus on the book ‘The Pugs of the Frozen North’ by Philip Reeve. Inspired by this wonderful book, the children will be identifying features of a narrative and creating one themselves. In maths, the children will be securing their multiplication and division knowledge.
In Science, our topic will be 'Sensational Sound'. The children will be identifying how sound is made and investigate how the pitch and volume of sound changes. In D&T, the children will be designing, making and evaluating a Christmas light-up sign. Our topic in Computing is 'Computing systems and networks - The Internet'. In this topic, the children will know how networks share messages with other networks and describe how content can be added to the World Wide Web. We will also be evaluating the consequences of unreliable content. In Geography, we will comparing mountains and volcanoes. We will be learning how they are both formed and how to identify the difference between them. In PSHE, our topic will be 'Celebrating Differences'. In this, the children will be thinking about bullying and assumptions. They will also be thinking about what is special about them that makes them unique. Finally this term, in PE, the children will be playing basketball and doing some fitness.
Important Information:
Current spellings can be found below. These will be updated each half-term. Please ensure that your child practices these as often as they can. Spelling tests will be on a Monday. Maths home learning is set on Wednesdays and due back by the following Monday. We also strongly encourage the children to read at home. New books will be sent out on a Friday and will be expected on a Wednesday with Reading Journals. Please ensure these are signed before new books are issued.
Times Tables Rockstars (TTRS):
Children in Year 4 will complete a Multiplation Times table check - known as MTC. We will be practising these at school, however it is important that your child also has access to practice these at home. Each child now has a log-in, which can be found at the front of their maths home learning books. Please encourage your child to log-in and practice at home.
3x e-praise points will be awarded weekly, if your child plays for 21 minutes per week (which is recommended).

Home - Times Tables Rock Stars
P.E. days for Year 4 will be on a Wednesday and Friday. Children should come into school wearing P.E. kits on these days. Please make sure all earrings are removed or covered with tape before school on these days.
Swimming will start in Spring and continue through to the Summer term. Swimming will be on Wednesdays where the children also come dressed in their PE kits.
