Autumn term begins with our ‘Marvellous Me’ theme where we will begin to develop relationships with our new friends and teachers, learning all about each other and what makes us unique as individuals. We will consider what we look like, what we enjoy and learn how to make friends as well as become familiar with the new rules and routines of our new setting, feeling confident to make choices, share and take turns.
Our chosen key text is ‘Hello Friend’ by Rebecca Cobb, where we enjoy listening and responding to the story, using the pictures to help up respond to ideas about the characters and predict, question and relate to our own experiences. We will also explore different emotions, developing our vocabulary around these different feelings.
Children receive two books each week: an independent book marked with an 'I', which are books children should be confident to read without support and a supported book marked with an 'S', where there may be a few words that you may need to help your child with. Children will also choose a class library book each week for you to enjoy sharing together. This one is ideal to further support your child with their comprehension skills.
Please return the communication folder every Monday morning with the reading diary and books so that they can be returned to you each Tuesday afternoon. We ask that children read each reading book over at least three days each week. Please make sure you clearly indicate in your reading diary that you have done this. There are also additional books shared on Oxford Owl so please see Evidence Me for further weekly suggestions.
PE - Reception has PE on a Tuesday. Please send your child to school in their kit on these days. Please make sure all earrings are removed or covered with tape before school on these days.
